“Remain-in-Mexico” is still the law of the land, but the Biden administration refuses to enforce it. That’s why the border bill in Congress is a joke: if DHS is ignoring existing border laws, they’ll just as easily ignore the new one too. Yet Senate Republicans are falling for it. – Vivek Ramaswamy X=@VivekGRamaswamy
The United States government implemented a policy known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), which is what “Remain in Mexico” refers to. This policy, introduced in early 2019, required certain asylum seekers arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border to stay in Mexico while their asylum cases were processed in U.S. immigration courts. The goal of the policy was to manage the increasing number of asylum claims and address concerns about the capacity of the U.S. immigration system.
Before the Biden administration took office in 2021, it declared its intention to terminate “Remain in Mexico.” Human rights groups and other NGOs applauded the Biden administration for doing so, claiming it would avoid exposing asylum seekers to dangerous conditions and restricting their access to legal representation. However, as word of the change has spread through South America and around the world, the US border has been effectively open to all who wish to immigrate to the US, which traditionally has been a large portion of people from other countries. That’s especially true of underdeveloped countries. The situation has turned into mass illegal immigration chaos, with the Mexican drug cartels stepping in to exploit those who wish to immigrate.
Vivek has made his position known on illegal immigration from the outset. Even now, as he is campaigning with Trump, he continues to tell the truth about the situation. All Americans who love the idea of living in a sovereign country should be paying attention and voting for candidates who feel the same and have the guts to do something about it.
